PEZ, a trailblazer of Barcelona street art is a famous urban artist well-known for his character smiling fish. Jose Sabate aka PEZ (“The Fish” in Spanish) created this ever-smiling fish as an alter ego, always colorful and with a heavy load of positivism.
In his own words, “My (smiling fish) character is born from experimentation, comics, ska-punk, freedom, LSD, marijuana; a character who smiles because he laughs at anti-graffiti laws”. By speaking this “language of smile”, PEZ is passing on positivism and good vibrations to the people on the streets, spreading smiles worldwide. His art is spanning from classic graffiti to experimental pop art. The art of PEZ has been presented in the most important street art books. Beyond painting buildings and walls all around the world, his art can be found in many prominent art galleries.
The character "fish" comes from the experimentation and the desire to do something constructive on the walls of his city.
