Gabriel Antolínez

Gabriel Antolínez's practice is focused on objects and processes that seem at once natural and artificial, such as the sculpture Peluda (Hairy, 2004), which combines rabbit fur with synthetic padding and thread. In Nata dorada (Golden Skin, 2004 - 06), he blows air into a contained body of water covered in gold foil so the foil surface swells and eventually breaks. The artist says of his intentions “dissimilar materials and referents coincide in my art pieces, engaging in dialogues in which the borders are relaxed and the attributes can move from one entity to another. Decorative arts, science and history—from their apparent heterogeneous nature—come together in my work to question antagonisms and highlight similarities and crossing points between opposites."

In addition to several solo shows in his hometown of Bogotá, Colombia, Antolínez has exhibited his work in a number of group exhibitions since 2007, including Cermodern, Ankara, Turkey, Museo de Arte Moderno de Bogotá, Colombia, Museo Casa Diego Rivera. Guanajuato, México and the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami, USA.
