Ambie Abaño
Ambie Abaño (Philippines, b. 1967) is a visual artist and arts educator, who works primarily with printmaking media. She continuously explores the printmaking medium to create portraits, figures and various imagery in mixed media print works, sculptures, and installations that originate from traditional printmaking techniques. Since 1986, Ambie has exhibited, lectured, and led workshops extensively in the Philippines and internationally. After serving as the President of the Philippine Association of Printmakers (PAP) from 2007 to 2012, she is now a member of the Board and continues to actively participate in PAP projects. Ambie has an MFA degree from the University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, where she serves as a professor.
Ambie received an Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Fellowship in 2012 to undertake research in contemporary art activities and art management in printmaking workshops, and participate and create new works during her residencies at the International Studio & Curatorial Program and the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop in the United States. “My experience as an ACC grantee gave me a wider perspective of the role of art in society and in people's personal lives, and at the same time, inspired by the collective empowering spirit of the ACC family, …
