Keliy Anderson-Staley

In an effort to craft a new portrait of American Millennials—the generation born after 1982—photographer Keliy Anderson-Staley has adopted techniques similar to predecessors such as Weegee (Arthur Fellig) and Diane Arbus, who documented the youth of their time. Like the images of these master photographers, Anderson-Staley’s work candidly captures young contemporary adults and also catalogues their activities, appearances, relationships, and communities. In her series Off the Grid, for instance, Anderson-Staley explores the alternative bohemian communities of today with sharp, colorful photographs, her emotive and carefully composed images depicting clusters of families living without electricity in contemporary Maine.

Major exhibitions include shows at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Akron Art Museum, and the Houston Center for Photography. Anderson-Staley was a 2008 New York Foundation for the Arts Photography Fellow.
