Carmen Argote
Carmen Argote draws connections to the body, class, and economic structures in relation to architecture and personal history. Her process of deconstructing materials along with the action of walking develops the visual language of her work in site-specific sculpture, installation, drawings, video, and performance.
Born in 1981 in Guadalajara, Mexico, Argote currently lives and works in Los Angeles. She received a MFA in 2007 from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she also received a BFA in 2004. Argote's works are in the collections of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; among others. Argote is represented by Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles, California and is co-chair of the Artist Council at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions have been held at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, (2023), Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, (2022), Primary.
