About The Work
Acclaimed artist Jennifer Bartlett's systematic method makes up the foundation of her diverse practice. Indeed, many of the forms and processes that have shaped painting, like the grid, have been re-defined and re-purposed by Barlett through her career. Her subject matter is often familiar to the point of mundane, includes houses, statues, and strangely recognizable landscapes, all of which invite the viewer to consider their mysterious narrative. In this somber pastel landscape, Summer, Iceland #5, Bartlett depicts an Icelandic mountainside, dark clouds overhead.
