About The Work
Tropical Collectors (Wallace, Bates and Spruce) refers to Victorian naturalists and tropical collectors who were associated with some of the first biological and scientific investigations. This two color blue and red lithograph is a depiction of Dion’s installation of field equipment the collectors would have used, which was featured at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and FIAC in 2009. Here Dion focuses on the methodology of the naturalists opposed to their findings.
