In this large-scale photograph, Maria-Providencia Casanovas documents personal belongings from an apartment she rented in Rochester, NY. Arranging the images in a grid structure, the artist groups various objects together, denoting the same value to books and bedding as garbage and old sponges. Says Providencia Casanovas of the work, “each day we make a multitude of transactions with the outside world, evidenced in the ebb and flow of objects in and out of our living environment. With the aim of shedding light on this most basic of functions, normally hidden within plain sight, I established a set of rules to guide the photographic documentation of the objects that crossed the threshold of the apartment, during a three months period, creating a visual inventory.”
