About The Work
In this book of 18 woodblock prints, Kiki Smith uses a classic Greek text on light and vision to create a wholly contemporary work. Smith used the complex process of heliorelief, which transfers photographs to a block of wood, then cast into relief by sandblasting. The transculent Japanese paper Smith selected recalls the ancient vellum used by the Greeks.
