About The Work
A table puzzle printed with Pretty Ugly Dreamlike Glare (2003): one of Mutu's early works comprised of mylar, sequins, and layered ink on collage. A light-hearted gift that will bring a splash of aesthetic wonder to any table or home.
Acclaimed artist Wangechi Mutu works across painting, collage, drawing, sculpture, and film, developing hybrid, fantastical forms that fuse mythical and folkloric narratives with layered sociohistorical references. Mutu's practice consistently challenges the ways in which cultures and histories have traditionally been classified and proffers new models for a radically changed future informed by feminism, Afrofuturism, and interspecies symbiosis.
Pretty Ugly Dreamlike Glare, 2003, Ink, collage, and sequins on Mylar, 50 × 43 in (127 × 109.2 cm). The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Partial and promised gift of Manfred and Jennifer Simchowitz. Courtesy of the artist and Vielmetter Los Angeles.
