About The Work

Hopscotch emerged from a large sheet of Rives heavyweight watercolor paper. I enjoy the “finding” process of collage work. Ultimately, the paper was primed with gesso for oils and cut into smaller parts. As I worked, a vertical direction formed with an up-and-down pattern of repeating rectangles that I “echoed” with additional textured materials. At its conclusion, much to my surprise, as I reflected on this vertical composition, the movement and rhythm of warm colors, and the childhood game came to mind.
