Kathleen King
Kathleen King elevates the humblest of overlooked botanical materials to iconic status for the viewer’s contemplation. These improvisational fantasy/nature themes have been an ongoing thread in her paintings, drawings and sculptures. Reconfiguring the found detritus fragments into small 3d “models” allows the artist to transform the models into evocative metaphorical figures in the final art works.
Represented by Viridian Artists, INC in New York City, King had been included in several group exhibitions including Onward Gallery in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, October/November 2010 and in a survey drawing exhibition at SOMA Drawing Center, SOMA Art Museum, in Seoul December/ March 2010-11. The artist is a board member of the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts, located on the island of Skopelos, Greece. Besides serving on the board, she has exhibited work, taught and held artist/colleague workshops at the foundation. Kathleen King has taught at Loyola University, Chicago from 1977 to 2009 as an adjunct professor and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1989 to 2001 as an assistant adjunct professor in the Print Media Dept.
