About The Work
In this silkscreen on Thai Mulberry paper, artist Shahzia Sikander brings the traditional art of Indo-Persian miniature painting into dialogue with the art of the present day. The carefully crafted figures of Afloat point to ancient precedents, while also referencing the abstracted forms of postwar art. Sikander thus achieves a colorful, delicate balance between East and West (an edition of 35).
