About The Work
Martha Rosler’s print celebrates the efficiency and effectiveness of the London Tube train system. Subways and transit systems have featured prominently in her work for many years, and here Rosler cheekily alludes to the train’s ability to move citizens around by showing the plodding movement of cars and boats. The bright colors, beautiful sky, and majestic ferry seen here are contrasted by the title, which jokes with the viewer that all is not what it seems: they should avoid this congestion and go underground instead.
