About The Work
The Serpentine presented a major survey show in 2015 by Jimmie Durham (b. 1940, USA), an artist, poet, essayist and political activist whose career spans five decades. The core of Durham’s work is his ability to explore the intrinsic qualities of the materials he uses, at times fused with the agility of wordplay and, above all, irony. This limited edition lamp is designed by Jimmie Durham for LABINAC (a design collective started by Jimmie Durham, Maria Thereza Alves and Kai-Morten Vollmer) and has been generously donated to the Serpentine Galleries on the occasion of the Galleries' 50th Anniversary. Each limited edition lamp is unique and hand-made by the artist and comes crated in its own box.
