About The Work
Deborah Kass began her appropriation of Andy Warhol's work in 1992 after years of showing landscapes and abstract paintings. In her portraits modeled after Warhol's famous silkscreens, Kass replaces the faces of Marilyn, Jackie O, and Liz Taylor with Jewish subjects: Gertrude Stein, Sandy Koufax, Barbra Streisand. This seven-color silkscreen features the face of another Jewish feminist, Kass herself.
