About The Work
Using magic and comedy as models of discourse in her practice, Sara Greenberger Rafferty tries to bring mystifying and humorous imagery into the visual arts. In her 2005 photogravure Disappearing Act Screen Test, Rafferty can be seen juggling several large hoops, mimicking late 19th and early 20th century documentary photos of psychic mediums and other performers, wherein their actions are stylistically captured several times in a single image to convey their motion and wonder.
