About The Work
The series Afromuses in its entirety presents over 181 watercolors created by Chris Ofili between 1995-2005. None of the works are intended as actual representations of real people. Instead, they are figurative expressions. These figures emerge from Ofili's personal references and impressions of memory, day-to-day life and art history. The watercolors were digitally printed onto two tea towels preserving the vibrancy of the originals.
Third Drawer Down Studio and New Museum have worked in a collaborative license to produce the Afromuses (Couple) tea towels. They were produced for Ofili’s exhibition Night and Day, 2014, at the New Exhibition Museum in New York.
