About The Work
The beginning of this photographic project is an outgrowth of Alan Gaynor’s interest in Architecture and Urbanism. While it has been said that architecture is frozen music, the artist, Gaynor, states this series of photographs, which he calls City Project, demonstrates that in a City, it is not the individual building but the urban context or layering, which most resembles music. This also holds true for the Subway Series and Alan’s other project series. However, there is a different focus in the Flowers Project which happens to explore, via half-dead flowers, the line between life and death.
