About The Work
Roy LICHTENSTEIN’s interest in romance shines through in this work. The triptych presents a cult masterpiece of comic art and masterful composition, this time on skateboard art editions. A reinterpretation of a page from a Tony Abruzzo comic (published by DC Comics in 1962), the visual shows a distressed woman who is emerging tearfully amidst heavy waves. Through minimal color use and a tight, dynamic arrangement LICHTENSTEIN creates an arresting moment further enhanced by the thought bubble through which the woman exclaims: “I Don’t Care! I’d Rather Sink – Than Call Brad For Help!”
