The South London Gallery has an international reputation for its programme of contemporary art exhibitions, film screenings, and live art events, with integrated education projects for children, young people, and adults. At least five exhibitions each year in the main and first floor galleries profile the work of established international figures such as Mark Dion, Ryan Gander, Tom Friedman, Sanja Iveković, Michael Landy, Rivane Neuenschwander, Pae White, and Stephen Willats; as well as that by younger and mid-career artists such as Alice Channer and Oscar Murillo. Group shows bring together works by established and lesser-known British and international artists, such as Pursuit of Perfection: The Politics of Sport and At the moment of being heard. 

The South London Gallery sometimes produces limited editions accompany certain projects and exhibitions by artists such as On Kawara, Manon De Boer, Paul Morrison, and Charles Atlas.
