Arguably the most celebrated artist of the modern era, Pablo Picasso’s influence on art history is undeniable. Known for gestural strokes, Cubist abstraction and a strict adherence to technique, Picasso’s style shifted greatly over the course of his massive career, however certain themes remained throughout. In this etching from 1966, Vénus Foraine, a wild scene involving a donkey, female nudes, and several musicians and is rendered using raw, tactile tones and exuberant cross-hatching.
