About The Work
This unique work showcases Mike Glier’s modus operandi of painting landscapes en plein air through both observation and extemporization. It belongs to Along a Long Line , a series of paintings created during a trip along the 70th longitude where the artist painted in five distinct ecologies: the polar desert of Baffin Island, Canada, the rainforest of Jatun Sacha, Ecuador, the subtropics of St. John, US Virgin Islands, and the urban environment of New York City. Here, the lush upper reaches of Jatun Sacha’s rainforest canopy reveal fragments of the sky above represented by painterly brushes of blue. So that his images do not settle into description, Glier often turns the aluminum panel while painting such details.
