About The Work
On Vegetarianism is Manifold Editions’ latest print with Marc Quinn. The image derives from Quinn’s renowned series of Flesh paintings, which have been produced by the artist over a number of years and reflect the recurring themes from his oeuvre: life and death, heroism and suffering, and the physical and psychological boundaries of human beings. The paintings themselves both attract and repel, and to Quinn they are about the inherent duality of the human condition. This print is a continuation of Quinn’s experiments with the digital printmaking medium, which enables the artist to print with astounding realism, achieved through highly pigmented inks.
"A person can be repelled by the idea of killing an animal and seeing their flesh, but that same person can order a steak in a restaurant and enjoy it… it’s one of the ways humans cope with the world and it is a moral paradox." - Marc Quinn
