About The Work
Judith Bernstein’s invaluable influence on feminist and political art has returned to the spotlight recently, following a number of high profile exhibitions including her current show at the Drawing Center in Lower Manhattan. For decades, the artist has been an underappreciated but powerful force, using biting humor to critique and ridicule the toxic masculinity and militarism of American politicians. Trump Genie – Green & Purple Flag emerges from a series featured in the exhibition Cabinet of Horrors, which includes a new body of work comprised entirely of pieces created following the election of Donald J. Trump to the U.S. Presidency. Making use of Trump’s own language throughout the works in the show, Bernstein distills her reaction to the administration and its policies with her characteristic graphic imagery and expressive line work.
