About The Work
"Black Diamond 5" is painterly abstract monoprint inspired by the beauty of the faded frescos of the ruins of ancient Pompeii. Evocative and inspired, it is printed in sanguine, pale green and black on 100% cotton rag paper, signed in pencil, lo"wer right corner.
"Art is the by-product of the process of making art….. There is also the desire to make visible what is invisible; the spiritual, and entasis; distortion of the truth to create the appearance of truth. Perhaps this is what Picasso meant when he said; “Art is the lie that tells the truth.” Haske teaches at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, New York, NY and the Parsons School of Design, New York, NY. A selection of his work is in the collections of American Telephone & Telegraph, JP Morgan Chase, Rutgers Archives for Print Making, New Brunswick, NJ, Weatherspoon Museum, Greensboro, N.C., Smith College, Northampton, MA., Citi, and Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, Arizona.
