About The Work
Dane Mitchell’s “Perfume Plume” series consists of 12 unique monotypes, which the artist realized through a fascinating process that involved staging an chemical reaction between the blue ink and a custom perfume (the scent was inspired by the idea of a clean, empty room). Mitchell’s artistic process is fundamentally concerned with the dematerialization of art, and these prints, which carry the scent for a number of weeks, can be understood as physical manifestations of the intangible.
