About The Work
This limited edition signed and numbered work, published on the occasion of Frank Stella's print retrospective at the old (original) Whitney Museum is impressively large: it measures more than 6 feet high! (75 inches) by 4 feet wide! It's a rare vintage signed and numbered lithograph (from an edition of only 100) celebrating the first full retrospective of Stella's prints. The exhibition featured over 150 works. Stella’s move to printmaking went hand in hand with the rise of the lithography revival in the United States since its development in the 1950s. This show represented the first encyclopedic exhibition of his oeuvre, as well as the first occasion to evaluate the printmaking accomplishments of this influential American painter.
