About The Work
Duane Slick's limited-edition print, Terrapin Sunrise #2 combines total abstraction with veiled representation. The horizontal striped format favored by the artist grew out of paintings that featured American flags, a series Slick began after the death of his father, who served in the U.S military during the Korean War.
Duane Slick's first solo museum exhibition, The Coyote Makes the Sunset Better, was presented at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum from January 16 to May 8, 2022. Slick’s work has also been featured at Alberta Merola Gallery, Provincetown, MA; University of North Iowa, Cedar Falls; Bannister Gallery, Rhode Island College, Providence, RI; amongst others. Slick’s work is in the collections of The National Museum of American Indian, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, Washington, D.C.; DeCordova Sculpture Garden and Museum, Lincoln, MA; the Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI; and the C.N. Gorman Museum, University of California, David.
