About The Work
This animated silkscreen work, Untitled (Glory), by prominent writer and artist Dave Eggers is from a larger project undertaken in the last few years. Pairing drawings of various animals with simple text, Eggers engages his viewers in a humorous, philosophical dialogue. Says Eggers of the pieces, “These paintings evolved to include an array of mammals, and an array of dialogues. Sometimes the animals question their existence or purpose. Sometimes a passage from the Old Testament surrounds them and in some way gives them a sense of mission, but usually there exists tension between the animal and an unseen God, and in all cases I try to bring out the soul of the animal in some way.” Proceeds from these works will go to support Eggers’ non-profit foundation ScholarMatch, which pairs up disadvantaged college students with financial donors.

A portion of the proceeds go to ScholarMatch.org. Founded by author Dave Eggers, ScholarMatch began as a simple crowdfunding platform and grew into a full service college-access organization. Our mission is to make college possible for underserved youth by matching students with donors, resources, colleges, and professional networks.
ScholarMatch has expanded rapidly from serving just 39 students in 2010 to working with more than 500 students per year. Though crowdfunded scholarships remain at the core, our college advising, career coaching, and other services are an essential part of each student’s college journey.
