About The Work
Black and white zigzags clash with a colorful comic landscape: Jaguar Parade is part of a series of 12 paintings that slowly evolve or transform from complete abstraction to complete figuration. Claudia Comte brings to the foreground what is normally in the background, the environment becomes the leading character in this work. These abstracted fragments of the comic world are pictured interspersed with Claudia Comte's more familiar dizzying graphic patterning. Her love for comics from around the world, mixed with her interest in minimalism made this experiment more than just a series of paintings. It probably stems from the most seminal work Claudia Comte has created to date, as it brings together for the first time her abstract wall painting practice and the figurative painting. It paved the way for a new series of free-standing wall paintings that followed – and thus got her thinking about how abstraction could become more deconstructed and playful.
