About The Work
Candida Höfer is known for her haunting images of impressive theaters, libraries, museums, palaces, and other public spaces throughout the world. Devoid of people, her photographs focus solely on the grandiose architectural spaces that inspire awe to capture what she refers to as the "psychology of social architecture.”
A member of the Düsseldorf School and former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher, Höfer is influenced by the legacy of conceptual and typological photography.
