About The Work
J'Adore (2023) is part of a new body of Senior's work which portrays people in various commercial contexts. Human figures are represented alongside images of movie stars advertising perfume and models advertising sportswear. At the bus stop, the models gazing out from the posters are an acknowledgment of the representational nature of art itself of course, but these works reference their artificiality in other ways too. The tall black frame of the bus stop shelter evokes the black frame of a smartphone screen – a frame that figures step in and out of, lean against, sit within, and gaze at their own smartphones.
