Andrea Belag

American painter Andrea Belag creates lush and luminous abstractions inspired by the visual and spiritual principles of Zen, as well as artists such as Mary Heilmann, Bernard Frize, and Takuro Kuwata. Crafting each piece with a variety of tools and paints, including knives, spatulas, paper towels and large brushes, Belag explores the pictorial space with both meditative purpose and fortuitous movement. 

Solo exhibitions include the Philadelphia Museum of Jewish Art as well as DCKT Contemporary, New York, Galerie Heinz Holtmann, Cologne, Germany, Bill Maynes Gallery, New York, and Richard Anderson Fine Arts, New York. Belag’s work has been featured in publications including The New York Times, Art in America, ARTnews, The Brooklyn Rail and Time Out New York. BELAG is a recipient of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. She has been a Faculty Member of the School of Visual Arts since 1995.
