About The Work

Artist Tal R, who appropriates a wide array of imagery and art-historical styles, has referred to his practice as "kolbojnik," the Hebrew word for leftovers. This exquisite set of sixty-seven woodblock prints on Japanese paper, Almanach 67 brilliantly exhibits these intricate, pieced-together visuals. Here, cut out shapes, reoccurring motifs, sequential numbers and crudely drawn animals form an extended narrative of printed iconography—calling to mind various historical narratives and traditions.
