About The Work
Takashi Murakami Flowers have become an icon and are as famous as any other global trademark. They were born from the artist's attempt to paint flowers as traditional Nihonga "setsugetsuka" paintings. Takashi Murakami Flowers, as innocent as they may seem, have a much darker background. According to the artist, they evoke the repression and contradictory emotions of Japanese society after the WWII bombings in their country.
Takashi Murakami's Flowers have transgressed fine art, and become a pop culture icon. They have been on music album covers and taken over fashion, joining forces with the most remarkable streetwear brands but also with luxury fashion realms.
