About The Work
Joy and death are inescapable motifs of Takashi Murakami’s work, often coming back to the implications of World War II. The artist’s flowers and skulls together create a camouflage effect that assumes a background role regardless of the subject matter or foreground. He describes his series, Flowers and Skulls as the opposite of still life compositions. Despite their similarities, the works in this series are each unique—engaging ideas of change and evolution; life and loss.
