About The Work
The images from the continuously expanding series “Forbidden Fruit” not only celebrate the beautiful shapes and colours of nature’s bounty; in addition, according to myths and legends from various cultures, many fruits are associated with special powers. Some promise to reveal forbidden knowledge, others give strength or excite the senses.
By consuming six pomegranate seeds, Persephone became bound to Hades, the Greek God of the Underworld; in India talismans are made with limes and chilis to ward off the evil eye; the Aztecs believed that avocados intensified male potency. In my images I explore the secret lives of fruit and transform their underlying essence in a feast of colour, shape and texture.
