    About The Work

Robert Mapplethorpe was a controversial photographer known for his large-scale, stylized black-and-white images. Whether of celebrities, nudes, self-portraits, BDSM scenes, or flowers, he treated all his subjects in an equally sensitive yet blunt manner. In 1988, he designed 3 plates featuring his striking flower images, including "Orchid, 1987" for Swid Powell.
