SculptureCenter is pleased to offer this series of works by Rafael Domenech, Untitled (publication for Sarduy), 2020, which were part of his solo exhibition Model to exhaust this place (SculptureCenter Pavilion), that ran from January 16th through March 23rd. For the exhibition, Domenech created a large-scale modular installation on the ground floor gallery which, depending on the time of their visit, viewers experienced as a sculpture, an architectural model, or a venue for public programs and events.
Within the pavilion, 91 baltic birch plywood panels operated in multiple ways—as a poem, a utilitarian object, and as sculptures. Each wood panel contains segments of two poems by exiled Neo-Baroque Cuban poet Severo Sarduy (1937-1993) written in red vinyl. Any two panels can interlock and create a fully functional chair.
