This triptych by Mickalene THOMAS presents a collage of textures and mixed materials. Its main focus point is a woman, posing proudly and with grace. Her eyes are replaced by what appears to be a magazine cutout, while her attire blends in with the patterns and textures of the vibrant background.
For 20 years, THOMAS has been celebrating the power of the Female gaze. Her practice explores femininity, race, culture, sexuality and beauty, through artworks which empower and offer new avenues for representation.
