About The Work
Beloved artist, illustrator, and author Maira Kalman has generously partnered with Julie Saul Projects and BAM to release a new edition to benefit BAM’s artistic and educational programs.
Marie-Laure de Noailles in Her Paris Salon is part from a series of 60-plus paintings Kalman completed while working on a new illustrated edition of the Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, coming out in March 2020. This striking scene captures Naoilles in her salon, surrounded by art, music, and the warmth of domestic life.
Kalman has been making sense of everyday life through her extraordinary vignettes for over 30 years. Her pared-down imagery finds the beauty and humor in the human experience. Kalman’s work has been exhibited at the Jewish Museum in New York, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia, Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and Julie Saul Gallery in New York, and on BAM’s stage.
