About The Work

In the 1980s, Lynn Davis first journeyed to the Arctic. Since then, she has returned on multiple occasions to continue documenting the rapidly changing landscape. This meditative, beautifully composed work is one of Davis’s early photographs, and as such, it reflects the artist’s original desire to capture the region's stirring natural majesty. Here, a single iceberg tops the frigid water and appears against a monochromatic seascape, rendering Davis’s image all the more heartbreaking given the inevitable loss of this particular natural occurrence.
