Margin is a CYMK screenprint based on the sketchbook of artist Lucy Skaer. Tucked in the book are some pages she cut out of a magazines and kept in the sketchbook for over five years. The magazine pages themselves are printed in lithographic CMYK and are of a 15th-century Flemish tapestry, which, at the time of printing, had recently been restored in a private collection. One day in the studio, Skaer photographed the sketchbook with its edging of pages, summing up how she uses anachronistic material in her practice to rub up against newer ideas and material—the “past more generally is enveloped in the present, obscured and altered.”
