About The Work
Katherine Bradford created the unique work of art titled, “Single Boat, Dark Sea” in my print atelier, Pelavin Editions, in 2008. We were located on the ground floor of 13 Jay Street, New York, NY 10013.
"Pelavin Editions was created in 1981 and I was the master printer, director, and owner. We focused on monotypes and unique works on paper. We also did small etched editions. Our artists, at the time, were considered emerging artists. The majority of our artists were women.
The technique the artist used was to paint the image with oil paint on plexiglass. A damp sheet of paper was laid down on the plate and both were run through an etching press. Each image created was one of a kind. It is the same technique used since at least the 1640s.
The image has been in my possession since it was created. The little “chop” mark of a cat’s paw in the lower left-hand corner of the sheet is my atelier’s mark." -- Katherine Bradford
