About The Work
This piece by Heather Hartman, made for her show "Kudzu Season," is one of a series of four paintings representing the four seasons relative to the Kudzu growth cycle. "Water and Light" is the spring-inspired painting of this seasonal series. During the spring, the kudzu plant begins to awaken from its winter dormancy. The predominantly light blue/sage green atmosphere of this painting gives way to the vibrant curve of a rainbow on the right-hand side of the painting. The leaves of a tree in the background give us the sense that plant life is beginning to flourish. The silhouette of a bare kudzu vine appears to be reaching toward the center of the painting.
