About The Work
This piece by Heather Hartman was created for her show titled "Kudzu Season," at Channel to Channel Gallery. In this piece, layers of paper, painted tyvek and silkscreen create a dreamy lavender and pale yellow atmosphere that recedes into space. Several fibrous kudzu vines dangle from an unseen vantage point ay the upper right-hand side of the painting. The dark purple of the vines contrasts heavily with the light and airy background. Vines curl and stretch towards the bottom of the canvas, leaves unfold at various points and flowers bloom. As the viewer, we get the sense that spring has sprung and the plant is beginning to activate in the warm weather, signified by a pastel sky.
