About The Work
Aug. 29, 2013 is from a group of works that consist of altered press photos on the cover of the New York Times, their images transforming the platform of our mediated world into psychedelic dreamscapes. These works preserve the overall format of the newspaper’s front page but build upon its headline photos with Fred Tomaselli's recognizable imagery—marijuana leaves, pills, body parts, eyes, and the like. The resulting pieces poke fun at the way words and images together influence our understanding of the world. This work was made in an edition of 108.
