Working from original Polaroid images, Chuck Close creates large-scale portraits in both color and vivid black and white. Renowned for his inventive and detailed techniques, Close’s practice extends beyond painting to encompass printmaking, photography, and, most recently, tapestries. In this archival photographic image of the 14th Dalai Lama, Close captures each minute detail that constructs His Holiness’ face, from the lines on his forehead to his gaze, warmly complex.
