About The Work
"How can we engage and revere the divine feminine? Riffing on iconic fantasy vibes of a cosmic Virgin Mary, the drawing veers through Rococo style and video-like transitions. Tumbling forms put into motion a situation just after mystic vision, an after-image if you like. "The Virgin standing on a crescent moon, surrounded by rays of light...outshines the transitory and evanescent nature of all other realms..." My drawing is a play on how a traditional image morphs in response to the medium and time in which it is made. In this case, post-medieval, post-Rococo, even post-cinematic, after all those 'posts' — shimmering edges of a possible apparition."
This work is inspired by a panel painting in the Cloisters, New York.
